Tauber Family Railroad – Open until 6 p.m. Tickets are $3 per person for a one-way ride. The Tauber Family Railroad has been a perennial favorite at the Zoo, serving nearly half a million passengers each year since it was presented by The Detroit News in 1931. All locomotives were donated by the Chrysler Corp. in the 1950s. In 1982-83, the locomotives were renovated and new coaches were fabricated through a fund-raising campaign by the Detroit Zoological Society and The Detroit News. The locomotives were refurbished again in 2008 with new coaches, rebuilt engines, gears, gauges, wheels and bodies. All aboard!
Carousel – Take a ride on the wild side with a spooky twist! The 36-foot custom-made, wood-and-brass Carousel is adorned with 33 brilliant hand-carved, hand-painted figures, including traditional carousel horses as well as colorful mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, snakes, fish, seahorses, dinosaurs and an ADA-compliant peacock chariot. The carousel is full of spooky décor for all ages to enjoy.
4-D Theater – Exclusively for Zoo Boo, “The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience” will take guests from the Ford Education Center back to Oz. This beloved classic becomes a modern adventure in The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience. Newly restored in digital 3-D with added special effects, be swept along with Dorothy as a powerful tornado transports you on an unforgettable adventure to the magical Land of Oz. Part of the Detroit Zoo’s Wild Adventure Zone, the 126-seat 4-D Theater is the first and only theater of its kind at any Michigan zoo.
Aerial Acrobats – Watch as festively dressed performers hang, swing and spin through the air in elaborate choreographies.
Top Hat Side Show – The Top Hat Side Show is an action packed comedy show featuring the most dangerous and awe inspiring performers in their fields. Enjoy a sophisticated portrayal of some of the most death-defying and mystical vaudeville-style performances found anywhere.
Stilt Walkers – Charismatic characters dance, pose for photos, walk over unsuspecting victims and juggle.
Flash Mob -The festively dressed Royal Oak High School Varsity Dance Team will perform a series of dance routines throughout the graveyard.
Mime – A stationary Michael Lee will perform using only gesture, expression and movement.
Super Hero Demos – Small stunts, hand to hand lightsabers, falling, rolling, training and more!
Juggler – Tim Salisbury presents a fun variety show with world class juggling and other amazing skills. Watch as he balances a bicycle on his face, catches a bowling ball on his neck or even juggles fire.
Pumpkin Carving – Pumpkin carving should be fun, fast, and festive. It should also reward being inventive as well as artistic. Watch as two pumpkin sculptors show off their talent and skills.
Pumpkin Smashing – Tom Nardone engages in smashing, crashing and destroying pumpkins of all sizes.
